From previous participants…
“ We had a wonderful two-day cycling trip through beautiful Prince Edward County and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.
From the outset, the trip was easy to book and very well organized. We stayed both nights at Lake on the Mountain in a beautifully restored historic home overlooking Lake Ontario, with wonderful views across the Bay of Quinte and toward the Glenora Ferry. It was a terrific setting and a very relaxing way to begin the weekend.
Our group consisted of 14 riders, with four of us on e-bikes. On the first evening, we enjoyed an excellent dinner at the Lake on the Mountain restaurant. The food was delicious, and it gave everyone a great opportunity to get to know one another before the riding began.
The following morning we set out on the 57 km Sandbanks Loop, broken into several well-planned stages. The first section was quite strenuous, particularly with a strong headwind, but it certainly made our stop at PECish Bakery even more appreciated. The freshly baked goods were a real treat.
We then continued to Sandbanks Provincial Park, where there was plenty of time for lunch, a rest and even a swim for some of the group. From there we rode to Base31 for another well-timed stop before completing the ride back to Lake on the Mountain. The wind seemed to follow us whichever direction we travelled, but it all added to the sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.
That evening we met for a group photo while enjoying a beautiful sunset before heading into Picton for dinner at Bocado. The Spanish-inspired tapas and shared paellas were excellent and made for another memorable meal.
The next morning we rode the Waupoos Winery Loop, with the choice of a shorter 20 km route or a longer 40 km route. We chose the longer option, which took us out to beautiful Prinyer’s Cove. It was definitely worth the extra distance and was one of the highlights of the ride.
We then enjoyed a wonderful brunch at Waupoos. The beautiful setting and good food made it a perfect place to relax before returning to Lake on the Mountain to say our goodbyes.
What really made the weekend special was the way Maddy, Chantel and Molly looked after everyone. They were relaxed, fun, efficient and always attentive without ever making the trip feel overly structured. There was always an abundance of healthy snacks, fresh fruit and drinks available, and we were very well taken care of throughout the weekend.
The whole experience was extremely well managed while still feeling informal, friendly and fun. We met a wonderful group of people, enjoyed beautiful cycling, great scenery and excellent food, and Maddy and her team were the perfect hosts.
We had a terrific weekend and would happily recommend the experience to anyone considering a cycling trip in Prince Edward County. ”
